Do you know for sure, when you die, that you will go to be with God in Heaven? If God were to ask you, “Why should I let you into My Heaven?”, do you know what you would say? The Bible says that there are 5 things you need to know about becoming a Christian & having a forever-relationship with God:

The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Heaven is a free gift. No matter how hard we try, how many good works we perform, or how religious we are, we cannot earn & will never deserve a place in Heaven. The Bible says, “God saved you by His special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (Ephesians 2:8-9). WHY can no one earn a place in Heaven?

Because we are all sinners. The Bible says, “For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23). “Sin” is not obeying God’s law. It includes things like lying, lust, cheating, stealing, deceit, evil thoughts, immoral behavior & more. Because we are all sinners, we cannot save ourselves. If you wanted to save yourself by good deeds, do you know how good you would have to be? The Bible says, “But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect” (Matthew 5:48). With such a high standard, we cannot save ourselves. But, in spite of our sin…

God is merciful; He does not want to punish us. The Bible tells us, in 1 John 4:8, that God is love. In Jeremiah 31:3 God says, “…I have loved you with an everlasting love…” But the same Bible that tells us God loves us also tells us that God is just & must punish sin. In Exodus 34:7, God says, “…I do not leave sin unpunished…” & in Ezekiel 18:4 God says, “…The soul who sins will die.” So, we have a problem! But God solved this problem by sending His Son, Jesus.

Many people mistake 2 things for saving faith:

  • Head knowledge, like believing certain historical facts, is not the same as saving faith. The Bible tells us that even the devil believes there is one God.
  • Temporary faith, like trusting God to help you in times of crisis, is not the same as saving faith.

Saving faith is trusting in Jesus alone for eternal life. It means resting in what Jesus has done, rather than in what you have done, to get into Heaven. The Bible says, “…Believe in the Lord Jesus & you will be saved…” (Acts 16:31). The question that God is asking you now is, “Would you like to receive the gift of eternal life?”

Jesus came to earth & lived the perfect life that we could never live. He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins & He rose from the grave to purchase a place for us in Heaven. The Bible says, “All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on Him (Jesus) the guilt & sins of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). Since Jesus paid the penalty for your sins on the cross & rose from the grave to purchase a place for you in Heaven, He can offer you eternal life (Heaven) as a free gift. This gift is received by faith.

Since this is so important, let’s be clear. To become a Christian, you need to…

  • Transfer your trust from what you’ve been doing to what Jesus has done for you on His cross.
  • Accept Jesus as Savior – open the “door” to your heart & invite Him in. In Revelation 3:20, Jesus says “Look! Here I stand at the door & knock. If you hear Me calling & open the door, I will come in…”
  • Receive Jesus as Lord – Give Him the “driver’s seat” & “controls” of your life, not the “co-pilot’s seat” or the “back seat”.
  • Repent – Be willing to turn from anything that isn’t pleasing to Jesus. He will reveal His will to you as you Grow as a Christian in your relationship with Him.

Now, if this is what you really want, you can go to God in prayer right where you are. You can receive His gift of eternal life through Jesus right now. The Bible says, “For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God & it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved…For ‘Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved’” (Romans 10:10,13). If you want to receive the gift of eternal life through Jesus, then call on Him & ask Him for this gift right now:

“Lord Jesus, thank You for Your gift of eternal life.
I know I am a sinner & do not deserve eternal life.
But You loved me so much that
You paid the penalty for my sin on Your cross
& rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me.
I now trust in You alone for eternal life & repent of my sin.
Please take control as the Lord of my life.
Thank you!”
In John 6:47, Jesus says “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life”. The Bible says, “But to all who believed Him & accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn! This is not a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan – this rebirth comes from God” (John 1:12,13). If you have truly repented (turned away) from your sins, put your trust in Jesus’s death on the cross as payment for your sins & received His gift of eternal life, you are now a child of God…a Christian…& you have begun a forever-relationship with God! Today is your spiritual birthday! You are beginning a fantastic journey that starts on earth today & continues in Heaven when you die, as Jesus promised that, where He was, we would be also (John 14:3). Happy birthday! Let the journey begin!
If you have prayed this prayer & become a Christian, tell us about it! We would be honored to pray for you as you begin your forever-relationship with God & start to Grow as a Christian!
